The asTech Talk | June 2025

Issue 5 - June 5

Welcome to The asTech Talk, your monthly source for the latest happenings, industry advancements, and essential updates in mechanical diagnostics, programming, and diagnostics.

Tune In to July’s asTech Industry Pulse Webinar

Chief Executive Officer Srisu Subrahmanyam and Chief Transformation Officer Keith Crerar will be featured in our next asTech Industry Pulse webinar, “Driving What’s Next: A Conversation with Repairify’s New Leadership.”

In this candid conversation, they’ll share how a customer-first mindset is driving their approach to solving the real challenges shops face every day. As Srisu noted in a recent Autobody News article, Repairify is investing in workflow integrations, licensing, and partnerships designed to make diagnostic and calibration processes not just more accurate—but easier.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear directly from Repairify’s new leadership team as they share their vision for a more efficient, connected future.

How Remote Programming Solved an HVAC Failure

A 2021 GMC Terrain came into the shop with one frustrating issue: the AC wouldn’t turn on. The shop had already replaced multiple AC components, but the system still wouldn’t blow cold air. Worse yet, the compressor wouldn’t even engage.

They found fault codes in the HVAC control module and attempted to reprogram it using in-shop equipment. Instead of solving the problem, the programming failed —wiping out the module’s programming entirely and leaving behind cryptic, description-less DTCs.

That’s when the shop turned to asTech Remote Experts.

Our team attempted remote programming, but the module wouldn’t accept the update — confirming the module itself was likely faulty. The shop replaced the HVAC control module and called us back to program the new one.

This time, success! The programming completed, the compressor kicked on, and cold air flowed once again. After weeks of frustration, the shop finally had a fully repaired vehicle — and a happy customer. It’s part of a larger trend: asTech Mechanical has now navigated a 153% increase in diagnostic events from last month, reflecting the growing demand for expert mechanical support.

Where to See Us

In July, the asTech Mechanical team, will be hitting the road to educate shops and tool vendors on the increasing need for OE tools and how asTech can make them available remotely at affordable prices. First stop is the ISN Tool Dealer Expo in Orlando, and then on to Auto-Wares Shop Nights in Wisconsin on July 28. Live demonstrations of the technology will be an important part of his time with his audiences!

Meet the Team – Matt Brelvogel, Remote Technician & Strategic Accounts

Matt Brelvogel

Matt has been in the automotive industry for 16 years, the last 3 plus have been with asTech as Remote Technician Rank IV. The opportunity to work remotely provides Matt with the ability to use his Master Level skills while living within his preferred rural community.

While his title is remote technician, Matt supports our organization in many ways. He provides mentoring and training to fellow asTech technicians, performs new product testing, activates trade shows and new client demonstrations, assists in the development of SOPs, and writes instructional content to be shared with the technician team.

A favorite quote of Matt’s is “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” – King Solomon. He lives this in the way he supports his team and uses all of the tools within the asTech suite of products to support his customers. When Matt isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his family, exploring Texas State parks and getting his hands dirty in the soil of his new produce garden.

Where We've Been

May and June were busy months as asTech Mechanical stayed plugged into some of the biggest conversations shaping the future of automotive repair.

In May, we headed to the Auto Care Association Connect Conference in Phoenix. While there, Ben Johnson, VP of General Automotive Repair Market, joined a panel on how AI is being used in repair shops, hosted a forum on emerging technologies, and participated in several industry committees helping shape the standards that impact our daily work.

Meanwhile, other members of the team were at the ADAS Symposium at the SEMA Garage in Michigan. With ADAS features becoming more advanced — and the number of sensors, cameras, and radars continuing to grow — calibrations are now a routine part of many repairs.

In June, we attended ETI Tech Week in Detroit, where our mechanical team met with major vehicle manufacturers to stay up to date on the newest technologies heading into the aftermarket. That way, when these systems start showing up in your shop, asTech is prepared to support you.

Wrapping up our DrivenToServe Initiative with Full Hearts

In recognition of May's Military Appreciation Month, asTech set out to give back up to $50,000 for maintenance and repair services for active-duty, retired, veterans and their spouses. We were honored to support an incredible group of service members along the way. From Army Captains and Colonels to active-duty Navy and Space Force, Air Force Lieutenant Colonels, Flight Officers, Marine and Coast Guard veterans, Master Sergeants, and so many more. It was a small gesture that we hope directly impacted their safety and peace of mind.

Supporting military members and their families across so many branches and roles has been deeply moving for all of us. We extend our gratitude to all service members, past and present, for their dedication and sacrifice.

It was also an incredible honor last month to partner with Defenders of Freedom, whose dedication over the past 20 years has made a meaningful impact on the lives of countless military members. We're proud to have worked alongside an organization so committed to supporting those who serve.
